Discover the beauty of language and how cultures are bridged in Our Expressions. This interactive exhibit invites you to explore how idioms and sayings—which are often unique to a language—can reveal shared human experiences across cultures. Presented in a dynamic word cloud format, the installation showcases themes like the various emotions, with phrases from four different languages displayed alongside their meanings and literal translations.
With new themes to discover every weekend, join us and become a part of this work by contributing idioms or sayings in your preferred language, complete with translations and explanations.
Established in 1968, Singapore Book Council Limited (SBC) is an independent charity with a mission to develop, support and advocate a multicultural literary arts sector. SBC cultivates Singapore’s literary arts scene by organising literary festivals like the Asian Festival of Children’s Content, developing the community’s literary capabilities through its training Academy programmes, and recognising excellence through conferring awards like the Singapore Literature Prize and the Hedwig Anuar Book Award.
