Registration
A casual platform for art advocacy, Artsplaining introduces and fosters art appreciation by engaging individuals from various industries and backgrounds who may not have direct ties to the arts, thus establishing relatability and connections between the art and non-art worlds.
Through thoughtful conversations and witty interpretations, our featured guests reflect on how the works in National Gallery Singapore relate to different industries and non-art spheres. Equal parts offbeat and accessible, this programme is perfect for anyone curious about the visual arts!
Join Iwani Munir and Curatorial Assistant Jin Ming to explore various works in the Gallery, and learn more about how artists utilise Southeast Asian motifs in their art.
Iwani Munir is a tattoo artist specialising in hand-poked tattoos. She is also a self-taught painter whose work is inspired by her Javanese roots. Her tattoo work and art style features symmetry that focuses on ornamental subjects derived from Indonesian fabrics like batik, Kain Ikat and indigenous tribal designs.
Jin Ming is a Curatorial Assistant at National Gallery Singapore, where he researches on first- and second-generation Singapore Chinese ink artists. He is part of the curatorial team managing the Gallery’s ink collection and exhibitions, and he also contributes to the revamp of the long-term Singapore art display at the DBS Singapore Gallery. He graduated from the National University of Singapore with a major in Theatre and a minor in Art History.
